Simple tips for the renovation of a small bathroom

For many it can be a challenge renovating a small bathroom, fittings and space are the main challenges that most people face. Design ideas are not only focused on the fittings because you can still remodel your bathroom without adding anything and retaining all the current fittings that you have. Let us suggest a few ways that can make your small bathroom better.

Most bathrooms have tiling in them, tiles prevent water from discolouring decorations and they are easily cleaned and can enhance the room. We would not suggest that you remove and replace these unless they are in a poor state; the glaze is crazed or discoloured for example. No take a look at the walls which are not covered by tiling and choose a new colour based upon the design of your tiles, we would suggest using a lighter colour if possible, if the tiles are all white, then a subtle light colour which will make a small space appear larger.

Lighting is an area which we believe can really make a bathroom appealing, forget the single light hanging from a cord in the centre of the room, many different styles of wall and ceiling lights, plus clever lighting on mirrors and cabinets gives any size of bathroom a luxury look and feel.

The biggest problem that we see in small bathrooms is unnecessary clutter and items of toiletries on windows baths and wash basins. Take out items that really do not belong there or have only been used a couple of times over the last year or so. If you do not have a suitable cabinet to store the items in, the best advice is to get a vanity unit. There are some stunning vanity units now available and many of these come with basin, taps and pop up waste already fitted, they are not expensive and very simple to fit, your plumber can do this job in a very short time, especially if an old pedestal style or wall fitting basin is removed.

Problems from Sharing a Bathroom

When you go from living on your own to living with someone it’s hard to adjust to sharing your space, whether they have moved into your home, vice versa or if you have moved somewhere new. It can take a whiles learning how to cohabit with a partner, which generally includes learning how to share small spaces such as the bathroom.

Bathrooms are an area where our bad habits are laid bare, such as not putting down a toilet seat to leaving hair in the sink. Bathroom cabinets can also cause problems in relationships. Men are normally the ones with minimal products and are often bamboozled by the items put in their by their female companions. James Brown laments the hell of sharing a bathroom cabinet with a woman in the Telegraph, so for all the men out there you are not alone.

Efficiency is key especially if you have a small bathroom, you need to be organised with all your bathroom products, make use of clever storage solutions, so you can avoid the entire contents of your bathroom cupboard falling out on you. Shelving also adds extra storage space, if you want stuff out of site, then pop them in baskets or boxes. Or why not look at bathroom furniture including vanity units and freestanding furniture to hide all your products out of sight.

We have looked at luxury bathrooms where home buyers are preferring to pay more for more space and luxury with their bathrooms. His and hers bathrooms being the most popular, allowing for a sink and mirror each, giving you your own space with the same applying to storage. Just make sure you don’t start spilling into the others ‘area’ otherwise world war 3 may break out!

The joy of giving

As we know Christmas is a traditional time for giving as well as receiving gifts from family and friends, the tradition came about of course, is to remind us of the presents given to Jesus by the Wise Men which were Frankincense Gold and Myrrh. However, the giving of gifts in the New Year is growing tradition when we go to a New Year party and of course it is very traditional in the Chinese community who celebrate their New Year, the year of the horse, on January the 31st so we thought it might be rather nice to suggest some gifts from our catalogue that can be given at any time of the year.

Very popular is the range from our accessories page which features bathroom accessories that can add that touch of luxury to your bathroom, en-suite or cloakroom. The Inda Gealuna Accessory package is a beautifully designed Italian set and represents amazing value. With the set are a double robe hook, tumbler and holder, toilet roll holder and multifunctional towel rail and liquid soap dispenser.

Perhaps the Burlington Classic set with the emphasis on classic old styling may be more appropriate if you have a Victorian or Edwardian style of bathroom; the set relies on modern technology but with yesterday’s styling of the towel ring, double robe hook, tumbler with holder, toilet roll holder and WC brush holder with matching brush

Less expensive but a product that will not look out of place even in the most expensive bathroom, the Twist four piece set gives the most used items on one low price set using top quality manufacturing techniques from Bristan, a well known and respected UK manufacturer and distributor of top quality bathroom products.
