Ay up lad! – today is Yorkshire Day! This year, Yorkshire Day is hosted by the city – Ripon, where UK Bathrooms is based! Yorkshire Day is always celebrated on 1^st of August and this year is certainly no exception.

History of the Yorkshire Day

Yorkshire Day signifies to the Battle of Minden on August 1, 1759, when British forces bypassed through gardens in Minden which were blossoming with roses. The British troops picked white roses and placed them in their helmets and coats. The allied soldiers defeated the French, it was then decided that Minden Day, 1st August was the perfect day to mark Yorkshire Day.

Ripon is hosting a parade through the town, a commemorative service and children’s activities. As the celebration this year is just around the Corner of our head office, UK Bathrooms team visited the town centre to get into the ‘Yorkshire Day’ vibe.

There will also be a picnic in the Dean’s Garden, live music from Ripon City Band and Mancunian Steel later on in the evening. Followed by a special edition of the Ripon horn blowing ceremony, a centuries-old tradition which has taken place every night since 886. Finally, we will finish of the day with a “reet-grand” firework display!
