Introducing the SoHo 2 range from Villeroy and Boch

Villeroy & Boch have long been the biggest name associated with bathrooms. V&B are renowned for their great design and world class engineering. As part of their already expansive collection, Villeroy and Boch have refreshed and reintroduced their SoHo collection, with the new SoHo 2.

Subway or SoHo?

We are asked all the time; “is that just Subway?”, “Why do some people still call it Subway?” or “How come it’s not on the Villeroy & Boch website?”. Ok, this bit is a little complicated, originally the SoHo collection was part of a range called Subway, but with the introduction of the newer Subway 2 range the collection was renamed SoHo. So there were two collections called Subway and there sort of still is, some people still call it Subway and some people call it SoHo to differentiate it. The SoHo collection as it was had been around for a few years, so when the new products have been introduced they were named: SoHo 2 (are you still with us here, someone thought that this made sense!). The Subway bathroom collection has dominated bathroom sales for the past decade; it’s the flagship range you think of when you think of Villeroy & Boch. It’s not the cheapest Villeroy & Boch range, but it is far from their most expensive. Now it’s called SoHo 2 the designers have gone back to the drawing board and re-engineered the furniture in the range; they have updated the finishes and used their most recent design

New features

The main differences in the new units are the drawers. The original Subway/Soho unit had one large draw and sub-divided draws within the unit:

The new Soho 2 unit has two large distinguished drawers, both with soft close mechanisms on them. This offers perfect storage for any of your typical bathroom products. The larger drawer at the bottom can more than handle large bottles:

The new furniture options come in updated finishes, you will always have a white gloss finish (it’s timeless and matches all any tiles). You have now got the option of:

Everyone at the UKB office has had a look at the new units; we think they are great and would easily recommend them to any of our customers. If you are looking to refresh your bathroom and are unsure where to start; Villeroy and Boch is a name you can be confident in, and the SoHo 2 is a range that will suit almost any bathroom layout.

How to create a vintage style bathroom

Vintage style is all the rage at the moment, from clothing to interior design. But the problem with having authentic vintage pieces in your bathroom design is that they’re more prone to going wrong, breaking or leaking because of their age. Instead, use modern pieces with vintage twists to get that shabby chic look but with more reliability.

‘Shabby chic’ is the easiest way to make something look older but still fresh and interesting. It’s also very simple to create unique pieces yourself at home too. For example, find a fairly cheap picture frame that fits your basic mirror and choose a paint that fits in with your colour scheme; the most popular for vintage style rooms is pale pastels or cream. Once it’s painted and dry, use some light sandpaper to scrub away some of the paint around the edges where there would generally be more wear and tear. Finish it with a cover of varnish to seal the design.

Retro pieces can also bring a bit of life to your bathroom. Old fashioned bathroom suites are becoming more popular again, such as those peach or avocado coloured baths and sinks you might remember seeing in your grandparents’ bathroom. You can find a great choice of vintage and traditional baths here. In a range of wonderful retro colours. Mixing and matching individual pieces and accessories around these will give you that lived in feel that’s cosy and unique to you. Please see the baths below for more ideas.
