Views on the cloakroom

Why do builders and planners give so little though to the all important cloakroom? With few exceptions one of the most useful places in the home, especially with a young family, the cloakroom, or “downstairs loo” is pushed into a small and inconvenient space with odds and ends of whatever the builder can get his hands on by way of essential sanitary ware.

Unless you are very lucky, the area designated for your cloakroom is going to be small, so you should get your builder or designer to use products that will be not only functional, but look good without taking up too much room, the Ideal Standard “Space” products are an example of this. Strategically placed mirrors will help to bounce light into the room as well as giving a sense of space. You will not be living in your cloakroom but you can go to town and show your personality with bold colours, themes, old photos or framed cartoons.
