Going green with water saving toilets

Water is a very precious resource, some parts of our country suffer from a water shortage in the summer months, which may surprise many as it seems to rain so often. With this in mind and to quote a saying by the Duke of Edinburgh, it is nonsense to use a gallon of water to flush down a pint of urine!

The first of the three toilets we feature is the Vitra Serenada Closed Coupled WC Suite with Soft Close Seat, we include in our unbeatable price the toilet pan itself together with the cistern, toilet seat & cover. The cistern is a top flush and has the dual function and the design has a low key country style, but this has been cleverly adapted to reflect today’s contemporary lifestyle.

International bathroom designers and manufacturers Ideal Standard have a stylish toilet which we feature, this is the Concept Cube Close Coupled WC Suite and it includes 4/2.6 litre water saving dual flush cistern and choice of seats. Space saving was in the mind of the clever design team headed by Robin Levien, a Royal Designer for Industry, so we can guarantee that style is not lacking. The package comprises the pan, dual flush cistern, and a soft close seat cover, and is finished in vitreous china, incidentally guaranteed for a lifetime, white to match any décor. This pretty WC suite is highly efficient with a push button with dual action for either a 4 or a 2.6 litres of water each time.

With a dual flush of either a miserly 4.5 or 3 litre flush, the Roca is a green solution for your bathroom, this stunning toilet with its soft square styling is particularly practical for compact bathrooms.

Grand Designs – Japanese Home Shower Room

So this week’s house, in East Devon was not completed by the end of the show. Which means there wasn’t a bathroom to be seen. So instead we are looking again at the Japanese house, a home which was aired two weeks ago. We have featured the bathroom, however the Japanese shower room is also worth looking at. Not often you get two completed bathrooms in one episode. Cleanliness is important in Japanese culture, the showers and baths are designed to not only clean your body but also your mind and spirit. Taking a Japanese “onsen,” or bath is part of many Japanese people’s daily ritual, helping unwind and relax away from everyday life. Before taking a bath however it is important to shower beforehand as per correct etiquette. You wash your body with soap beforehand, traditionally whilst sitting on small stools. You then rinse yourself off with a handheld shower. Temperature of the water is pretty hot, warmer than what is used in the average UK bathroom. The heat is to allow deep penetration and allow for relaxation of your muscles. There is also a small bowl supplied which you can use to pour water over yourself. After cleaning yourself completely, you are then able to sit in the hot and steamy Japanese bathtub. You can see more of the items used in the episode on our Grand Designs page, including the wonderful gold towel rails from Mere Ramillies and Aestus Crosshead Radiator Valves. We also have a selection of showerheads similar to what was used in the episode, so you can find something to suit your needs.

Vanity units – choosing the right one

Immensely popular today as they have ever been the vanity unit is guaranteed to enhance a bathroom, en-suite or cloakroom and provides an additional surface and storage area which is pleasing aesthetically. We offer a wide variety at our web pages and we are sure that there will be one or more to suit your particular requirement or to blend in with existing decor.

Vanity units are offered with a variety of cupboard and storage options and are normally designed for the sink unit to be inset into the top, although there are some exceptions where a free standing basin is preferred. As you peruse through the three hundred or so options we have some exclusive choices from Roca and Vitra and we think that you will agree that vanity units and washstands take on a whole new perspective when you look to their products.

One stylish item from Roca is the Roca the Gap Basin Unit in a subtle beige colour, this distinctive and stylish basin unit is available in seven sizes and a soft closing door is standard on the larger units. Although the wall mounting will work for the smaller pieces, we recommend that the larger options be sited on the floor and you can choose either two or four chrome legs.  Although shown, basins, taps, and waste fittings are not included in our price.

Mere Reef Interlock Panelling 9 Tile Wall Panel

Wall tiling in a bathroom or shower is essential to keep it not just looking great but clean, water resistant and hygienic too. The only downside, particularly within a shower enclosure, is that the grouting can become discoloured with age and use. Restoring this to the former pristine condition is possible of course and we all have had to do this at some time. But how would you feel about a classy wall finish that has all the appearance of stone or marble, but does not require any grouting?

A product that is taking the bathroom wall finishes to a new height is Mere Reef Interlock Panelling which is manufactured from water-resistant synthetics that are fully washable, making maintaining the panels is incredibly easy. The panels can be fitted to walls and to ceilings as well and all that is required to keep them looking bright and clean is to just wipe them down with a damp cloth. Now tiling your walls and then grouting is a thing of the past, with the help of Mere Reef interlocking panels, which are available in two styles and four stone coloured shades.

Bathroom towel rails

Heated towel rails are used in conjunction with existing radiators as a decorative heat source. They are available in a wide variety of styles, finishes and shapes. Roca The Gap Corner Basin 500mm

The Gap offers a wide choice of basins, WCs and bidets to appeal to each individual requirement and allowing the space to be perfectly tailored to each taste. The Roca Gap has a single tap hole and overflow, with a wide collection of mixer taps available as optional extras that can be seen at the taps and mixer section. The Basin is supplied in white ceramic finish.

The all important bathroom basin

The basin is the most important part of the bathroom, importantly though, you do not want it to look like a hotel bathroom or a holiday apartment so to feature the bathroom basin, it’s nice either to set your basin into marble or place it on top of a specially adapted piece of furniture. Housing a basin in a piece of furniture also works well, as drawers and cupboards will provide added storage.

A fine example is the Roca Fuego over Countertop Basin, these new Roca basin ranges are chic and minimal; a unique look is created by the curving sides of these contemporary bathroom basins which give it a smooth and appealing feel, whilst retaining a minimalist starkness, particularly attractive when used on a contemporary countertop and sleek fittings.
